Has anyone seen this kind of privy mark? What is it?

I've never seen a Australian Lunar with a privy mark before this one. Kookaburras? Tons. But never a Lunar. It's a lion privy. 200,000 mintage, I think. Might have been made for one of the big distributors. Never saw it at Perth. ebay has them for sale and at auction. There are people on the Australia Forum who would probably be able to tell you more.

thanks traevin will ask there as well
the seller of the coin asked $88 + shipping for the coin, so trying to know if it worth it.

It has the "P" Perth mintmark on it, I have no idea what the lion privy mark means. It is an awful looking obverse on this coin, Makes the Queen look like a negro with huge eye wrinkles If I owned one of these I would most certainly melt it Moderator edit: This post has received member complaints for potentially-racist overtones, trout1105. Please be more sensitive in the future regarding such content. I'm only leaving it because of the later references to it in the thread; I'd have to decimate this topic to erase all references.

bekiz, That's WAY too much. You're getting robbed. Look it up on ebay. They can be had for easily under $60. If you can't find it, I'll provide the link, but take my word for it, that's an awful deal.

traevin, now I got it ... especially after trout's " Queen look like a negro" comment ))) another coin ... from Kazakhstan ... not that many were minted something like 10K http://www.ebay.com/itm/KAZAKHSTAN-..._1443wt_1037What do you guys think about perspectives of the price of this coin in the future?

Not the greatest, bekiz. I've watched it at auction with the price in the range of the "Buy It Now" and witnessed zero takers. Although I like it, being a dragon fan, it didn't take the 2012 Year of the Dragon crowd by storm the way several other designs have. I'd advice patience. Wait until a couple of them actually go at auction so we can get an idea of where the market truly is for the coin. Not a lot of date to go on but I'd put the price at around $70-75 shipped.

Checking know what's going on in Kazakhstan with the coin. I missed the train with australian lunar series ... want to take at least this one, but do not want to pay too much (in this case 2x ASW price)

gimmicky in my books. Perth Mint sold out of their non-privy marked 1oz dragons but want to keep cashing in on the year of the dragon fever. This is the result.

Does anyone have any dragon without fever-price-tag on it? I'd add one to my collection )

I like how they were able to simply take the pearl design of this coin (I have a 2 oz. version an 1 oz. gilted version) and convert it into the lion privy mark very cool piece! I could be wrong, but one should always find that standard P for Perth Mint which is beside the tip of the dragons tail on all Perth Mint silver.....

yeah, you can do the same with ASE's ... take some, put the privy mark, and charge twice the price idea for free: 50 states issue it's own privy mark ... collectors going to be mad while looking for each and every one )))

Sorry, Bekiz. I'm not parting with my 18 odd silver dragons. But if you ever need a price, I'm pretty good about tabulating average costs and whether prices are trending up or down and if I have the data, I don't mind sharing it.

Traevin, do you think it is worth buying the coin with privy mark for $60?
