Hi guys

Can anyone tell me why all(I think) American pennies after 1969 approx. have the word "WE" in perfect alignment..But all pennies before 1969 have the word "WE" not aligned...The "W" is always higher than the "E".

Is there a reason for that...?

Was that not the year they started putting the mint mark
on the dies instead of hand applying them. That would account
for all new dies.

John1, if you noticed it and I noticed it and probably a lot of people noticed it, then why wouldn't the US MINT notice it...

There have been no fewer than a dozen different engravings used for the Lincoln Cent since its inception in 1909. You are simply seeing two different engravings. This has nothing to do with the mintmark.
