Maybe it's the great picture but I see an AU58 here in reverse of 1940, TY 2. I think there is some wear there on the cheek, shoulder, and numerous light contact marks. In another picture I might go MS61 or MS62.

It's funny you brought up the picture. My camera battery died before I got the lighting figured out on the obverse. The hairlines only show up under magnification for the most part. And I was really torn between high AU and MS. Maybe I'll take a few more pictures tonight.

Thanks for the input.

I think this coin is about as close to MS as a coin can get without actually being there. I'll go AU-58+

Nice rev. detail, it's a '40. I'd go with an even 60, maybe a tad higher.

Another image for fun. If I didn't know better these two could pass as different coins.

Would it make you feel better if I said AU59-MS61?
If you hold this in hand, and turn in the light, do you see the slightest wear and loss of luster on the highest points?
I think we still have an AU58 here but surely a great coin to have in your collection.

This is what we call a "slider".
You want to get a debate, call it unc
You want to get a pat on the back, call it about uncirculated.

Too funny Mike. I should admit this went from a question to a test. A test to see if my picture taking has improved. In hand it's as slider as it can get. I'm pretty glad that everyone agrees based on the pictures.

This one should be titled "1939 Reverse 1940 Type 2 Jefferson - AU58 with Great Eye Appeal and Strong Lustre". Too bad I purchased this one out of curiosity. My nickel collection is purely from roll searching. I'd feel wrong adding a purchased coin to the mix. :)
