When collecting coins, which grader is the better of the two, NGC or PGCS?

I have heard that the above two are the biggest and best but I have also heard that PGCS is much more selective when it comes to giving an ms70 than NGC...

I would appreciate any and all comments...

Also, I am starting to collect Silver Eagles from 1986 on and I am beginning to get the impression / picture that MS69 coins are the best way to go overall and that going for the MS70's is not always worth the extra money. Can someone offer advice for a beginner on what kinds of Silver Eagles to collect from 1986 on such as mint marks MS states, proofs, etc that I should look for?

Thanks so much I really appreciate everyone's input and I am having alot of fun collecting so far..

Any comments on this would also be welcome...

You will find a lot of info on this in the TPG section. That being said, in short, it seems like PCGS right now is the leader in buy and sell pricing, while NGC is a close second. ANACS is also up there, but does not have the value that the other two have in either the buy or sell areas. What most will tell you here regardless of the grading company, "buy the coin, not the slab". Although I may add that for resale value or investment purposes, IMO, PCGS is the way to go right now.

Absolutely keep in mind that these are just my opinions and my experience thus far as a relatively new collector myself.

It seems like your other thread is addressing your second question here quite well.

Hope this helps

I love ASE's too, I have 2 sets and several rolls of them, not 1 of them is graded. I don't think graded bullion is worth the trouble, but that is my opinion. Having a chunk of plastic around the coin is not worth $30 to me. Up until this year there were only proof and ms, no need to worry about mint marks. The wonderful part of this hobby is that you can collect anything you like. So if bullion in plastic is what you want, enjoy!! Just remember, the raw coins in my collection are MS69's and 70's too.

In my opinion it doesn't make sense to pay such a premium for ms/pf69/70 bullion coins. Although I do think the reverse proofs are deserving of the premium paid for them.
