Not only is your collection magnificent in quality and diversity, but the posters that have contributed to the history of these coins have amazed me on how much I have learned following along. I wish I had something to contribute, but I'll leave that to others more competent than myself. Good on you Steve and all the posters on this most excellent thread!

Septimius honored those 16 legions with an issue of coins we call the Legionary Series. A complete set is more than 16 coins because of multiple mints and minor variations. If you are to have just one coin of Septimius, it might be a good choice to make it a legionary: My set can be seen spread over several pages starting: http://www.forumancientcoins.com/do...legions.htmlCoins of Septimius at the start and the end of his reign tend to be relatively well made and smooth edged but there are a few years in the middle when ragged edges were normal.

Titus Flavius Domitianus was born on Oct 24, 51 AD.He was the son of the emperor Vespasian, and younger brother of the emperor Titus. He was the next to the last of the Twelve Caesars. What is written about Domitian is very bias as the two writers of the history of the emperors Suetonius and Tacitus hated him. What is know as factual is that he was well respected by the army a good leader and administrator of the empire. He instituted strict morality law, while he was conducting and affair with he niece Julia Titi. This angered many and several coops sprang up. A revolt lead by the Senator Saturninus, was quickly put down. This followed by seven years of treason trails, and terrorizing the senate. Finally a plot by his Praetorian Prefect and Domitians wife Domitia, Domitian was killed on Sept 18, 96 AD.

echizento => thanks for responding Quote: What is written about Domitian is very bias as the two writers of the history of the emperors Suetonius and Tacitus hated him => I think that is a pretty interesting fact (a bit of a smear of history ... geesh, they really must have disliked Domitian, eh?) Today, I actually read-through the chapter on Domitian in The Twelve Caesars (by the way, that book is a pretty good read) ... Apparently during his last three years, Domitian terrorized the senate and they faced tougher treatment than they had ever received from any previous emperor ... executions of prominent men in the capital multiplied as never before ... ... but Domitian's most fatal move was to lose the sympathy of his own joint Praetorian Prefects - whom he prosecuted and then eliminated ... so obviously their successors feared the same fate, so they plotted against Domitian (go figure, eh? => murder Domitian before he decides to murder them) ... Quote: Finally a plot by his Praetorian Prefect and Domitian's wife Domitia, Domitian was killed on Sept 18, 96 AD. => apparently Domitian died from being stabbed in the groin (wow => that sounds a bit personal, no?!) ... so once again, I find the lives and deaths of these emperors extremely fascinating!!

His wife wasn't very happy that he was messing around with his niece.

oxos => I actually think I did better than my "stevex6-usual" in the ol' value for my money category (I had DVC backing me up during this transaction) ... but yes, I guess it certainly wasn't a cheap coin!! => however, it was certainly money well spent, for I absolutely love this coin!! ... man, it would have haunted me forever, if I'd let this beauty slide-by!! (my precious)
