Beautiful coin, my reference material is very limited on Roman Republic coins.

Something interesting that I just read and didn't know. Is that IIIVIR is and indication that the person that minted the coin, in this case Geta was a knight around the age of 30 about to enter upon a senatorial career.

I found several examples of this coin in the British Meseum collection. They have the date as 68 BC. Check out this site in the BM seach put C hosidius and the search will show the exmples. http://andrewmccabe.ancients.info/History.html

echizento => wow, thanks for the link (man, there are some very nice examples out there!!) ... thank you very much for the extra-effort ... oh, and you're correct, it seems that 68 BC is listed on your site (my guy/dealer had 64 BC?) ... so apparently my coin is 2080 years old rather than merely 2076 years old!!) Oh, and very cool comment about Knight Geta!! (these coins are all so bloody interesting, yes? ... amazing!!)

Yes they are and I wish I knew more about them. I've devote my collecting to Roman Imperial coins mostly and have not aquired any Republican coins.

Very cool ol' tale ... thanks Doucet!! Quote: THE HUS KROMMYON was monstrous wild pig which terrorized the countryside around Krommyon on the Korinthian Isthmus. It was the pet of an old hag named Phaia ("the Grey"). Quote: The king summoned heroes from throughout Greece to hunt down the beast. Quote: Herakles was sent to capture it as one of his Twelve Labours. Quote: The king, terrified at the sight of the deadly boar, leapt into a buried pithos jar for safety. => Hmmmm? ... the brave ol' dog didn't get any press!! (what a rip-off, eh Larry?)
