I'm 29 years old, and have been collecting/learning for about 2 months now. I'm looking at my collection now, and am just thinking how much I wish I started collecting when I was about 2. I find myself searching random family members change that is laying on their counters. When I do laundry at the laundromat I have to check every quarter before I put it in the machine.. When I'm at the store and my total comes to $3.01 and the cashier asks if I have a penny I say "nope" because I want the change! I have bought a few coins on ebay, but I've noticed that the ones you find yourself are sooo much more special! A couple days ago I was going through my grandpa's change and found a Minnesota State Quarter DDR-001 "Extra Tree"!! So basically.. I've got the fever.. and I'm infecting my other family members too, because they are checking their change now too.

At least you sift though the change of family members. I sift through the change in the tip jars at 3 local starbucks... Granted, I've established a relationship with all the baristas and they allow me to swap out bills and coinage, so I can't recommend just going off and doing this at random!

Hopefully your family members will stay tuned in to this. Otherewise it becomes harder to find stuff.

Welcome to the hobby. In case you are wondering, after more than thirty years, I still feel the same way.

Your fever has just begun. :) Wait until you move on to the more expensive stuff. But enjoy the hobby, checking pocket change is pretty fun.

I'm in the same situation, started a couple months ago. The in-laws calls me once in a while and say ''hey I found this coin, to you have or want''. The guys at work are bringing there rolls of coins to search. A friend of mine as s store. So I gave her my watch list. The only I'm ask in return is to tell them if I find something special.
keep it up.

Its hard to contain at times. I find myself raiding honor system change jars, swapping bills for change to look through, then roll the unspecial stuff to trade in for halves and dollar coins

Im right with you enigmatic, I just started 4 months ago and I find myself doing the same thing. The kicker is I hated change and threw it in my car cup holder or in a jar at home. now when I get change back I step away and look at dates. I could kick myself for all those years I didnt bother to look at dates. now I know why 'coinstar " is doing good on stocks. :-)

The best part is once you learn what to look for.. you actually do find stuff!! I've got so many friends and family members interested.. and I'm slowly teaching them things I know.. but basically for now they are mostly just looking for anything out of the ordinary. I love how so many people have an interest in this hobby.
