Another find, searching the bag of lincoln wheat cents, was a specimen of a 1953 cent with a doubled "3".
It is not in the CherryPickers' Guide. Has anyone heard of this one before? Or is this an ordinary Machine Doubling?

Deteriorated die. Also known as the poor mans double die (1955). Not worth a premium.

In the early years of the 50's, they over used the dies and the coins suffered with a lot of VLDS coins. Die chips/cracks/breaks and extreme die wear was allowed to pass on down the line.
Rest in Peace

Nice find.

Thanks, coop for the information. I suspect that a lot of the coins that I have set aside as 'possible errors' are in fact just worn dies...which I still find interesting.
