Hello fellow CRHers. I know this seems like a beginner question but I'm looking for some expert answers. I have tried very hard to find a bank or credit union that has, or will give me customer provided coins. I've tried getting bags off machines...its against policy. I ask all my banks/credit unions if any members/customers have brought any coin. And when I say any coin...I mean anything from cents to dollars. I've even went bank to bank asking for halves followed by, 'do you have any cents, nickels, or dimes that were brought in by customers?'.
So my question to the great members of this forum is, do you have any suggestions for me?

Hey that's a great question O, sounds like you are doing the right thing, it just takes lots of footwork and/or calling to find out. There's no easy answer that's for sure. Not very many coin counters in my area, so that's an advantage for me. That means that customer coin rolls build up and if they surplus I get 'em. Trial and error my friend...good luck

If you have an account with the bank or credit union just tell them you need some rolls. Of course in exchange for cash. If your own bank reneges, close down your account and find a more cooperative bank/credit union. I have been burned a number of times getting CWR's. to many dumpsters. I now ask for Fed wrap only ie. Brinks, Wells Fargo. Good luck hunting.

I spend a lot of time on the phone researching where to go. Most of what I look through is cents, and they seem to be relatively easy to find CWR's of. Most banks around where I am are happy to give you rolls whether or not you have an account, as long as you don't overdo it ("May I have $100 in pennies please?").

Try a local credit union. The ones in my area always have CWR's.

greedynoob, First of all, Depends on which one I go to. One I avoid because all of their boxes are opened with paper wrapped rolls in them. The copper is there but I have a feeling they have been picked through; can't remember ever getting a LWC out of one. Most 5/3rds, though, give me sealed Brinks boxes. You never know what you get from those.

Well I avoid that one. Great thing about this area is there is plenty to choose from.

Just to clarify, I don't have trouble getting coin, though they do limit me most of the time. I'm trying to get my hands on the stuff the customers bring in to the banks. I know for fact that banks around here allow employees and security guards go through the coins. I feel confident it would be lucrative around here if I could get coins that are coming straight out of the piggy banks or registrars. Problem is I believe most of the banks either save that coin for someone or have a 'policy' of not giving the coins off the coin counters to the customer. I've tried the two credit unions that I'm a member of. I think the 'policy' is a bs way of saying 'we have someone else who already goes through these.
The coin in brinks boxes has just dried up here and I'm frustrated. The last $12,000 in halves has produced 1 40%er. Dimes are about 1 out of every $500 I found, and its usually one I would miss if I just rim-searched. I can 'have fun' with nickels and pennies but I need to bring a little money in with my hobby too. That's how I convince my wife that its a good idea to let me spend 3 hours every night 'playing with my coins' :)

Oh, and just an fyi...the 1 40%er I found would be missed by the best of rim searchers so the only reason I found it was because I'm going through every coin. I do find some proofs, NIFC's, and 74D DDO's, which keep me going. Owassokie

On the positive side of my issue, most all banks in my area are happy to take dump coins. They don't want rolled coins and would make you unwrap them if you brought them in as such.

It's just the opposite here. You must bring in rolls, unless arranged otherwise (only one CU that I use will accept loose in $500 bags). So, your banks have to count the loose coin manually? What if you brought in larger amounts such as $500-$1,000, or more?
