Funny what you imagine things to be. I contacted a guy about some local meetings and he said they open with a small auction. The auction was the meeting. I got there at six and didn't get to pay until 9:30. I enjoyed it but not what I expected. I'll hit the other local meeting Saturday after next.

I guess I was expecting some presentation or speaking or something! Not just a bunch of clambering over silver at spot over melt. (not 100% true, there was other stuff)

Two youths there I'll be sure to take something next time for any attending yutes.

Failed to sign up for the door prizes. Didn't win

About thirty folk, average age I'm guessing about 62.

Rest in Peace

Just an auction...hardly what I would call a coin club meeting. I hope the other club that you're going to try is better.

Nothing wrong with auctions, but what you wrote sure made me glad that my club is not like that. We have a silent auction every month but it doesn't take up any of the meeting time at all. And people arrive early to trade... but an all auction meeting sounds more like a business than a club.

Still, it is nice to get out and meet other people with the same interests -- and the average age...same at my club.

I went through the same thing you experienced. The first club I joined was purely an auction. They dedicate the first 15-30 minutes of the meeting to the club including a "show and tell" and dealing with account balance and meeting minute type stuff. I was pretty disappointed. The worst part is that it's in a concrete community building. Everything said echoes and if more than one person talks it becomes chaos.

However, the second club I joined has a monthly educational presentation. The wives send in baked goods. The group is much more laid back. They also have an auction at the end but it's much more enjoyable due to the atmosphere of the club.

Many of those auctions are stated as clubs to bring in more people. Usually they come once and never go again though. And be carefull of giving out personal information such as you REAL name and address. Don't join until you know what is what and just who the others are. I live in a high crime area so I do get a bit carefull of those places.
