Opened the album to upgrade my clad dime to a 96 W and... my 1853 three center had disappeared! It's a wicked thin coin, and it slipped between the hole and plastic slide ending up halfway in the 2 center hole. For the life of me, I can't figure out how to keep this from happening again.

Duct tape. Fixes everything.
Ok, I'm kidding. I have nothing of value to input here. ;)

Inject a small amount of glue between the surfaces with a syringe. You need the sharp intravenous type needle, not the blunt ampule drawing type. (Take the coins out first).
In Australia, no pharmasist would supply you with such a syringe without good reason. In that case, take your album to the pharmasist to prove your bona fides.

What about putting a lining of adhesive tape around the interior of the hole, trimming off the excess, and then reinserting the coin. Trim off the excess tape with a razor knife.

I would stay away from anything with adhesives as they could damage the coin. Try something like a clay or putty. You can mold it to fit your needs and it won't damage your coins. Just a little bit should provide enough pressure to keep the coins from falling out of their respective holes.

Although I am not a fan of slabs, if I had a 7070 collection in top grades, I think I would encapsulate or slab them anyway.

I have a worn F12 in that hole. Same thing would happen to me until I inserted the coin at an angle to the cardboard instead of flat to the plastic. It doesn't look great at an angle, but it has worked and I've become accustomed to it. Plus, when I get older, I won't even be able to see that 3 cent silver, so that's my long term solution. Previously, I had thought about making a custom foam ring from the type of foam that is used with the round plastic holders sometimes.

Thanks for the responses - I'm going to try to sandwich the trime between two thicker clear coin-safe plastic disks. I'll let you know how I make out.

can you fill the separation with a small piece of paper or plastic? Quote: It's a wicked thin coin Sounds like some one who lives in my neighborhood. Maybe you drop the R's from the end of words?

I am thinking I read somewhere that if it is a Dansco, I don't know I don't own a 7070 but if it is if you contact Dansco they have something that will hold the coins in place, and they will send to you for free. Somebody was having the same problem with Peace dollars, I think.

I took a slide out of another album (my SBA dansco had an extra page so I took out one of the back slides). I cut a thin strip off the end of the slide to a width that would be approximately the thickness of a dansco page and cut it just long enough so that it would completely make a circle around inside of the slot for my Three Cent coin. It basically kind of makes a "collar" in the slot and then I put my coin inside that collar. The collar holds it tight so that it won't slip out very easily (I imagine it still could slip but it would take alot of jostling to jar it loose). It seems to have worked well so far. Also, because it is thin and clear, you hardly notice it.

I've never had that problem with my Intercept Shields. Talk to Dansco, I guess.

Quote: Inject a small amount of glue between the surfaces with a syringe. Which surfaces? If you glue the paper around the hole to the cardboard you can't insert the slide.
