To hair on fire in Austin. I got a 2007 Thomas Jefferson 2 days ago at the 7-11 on St. Johns at IH 35 and it's the first dollar coin I've seen ANYWHERE in Austin in about 10 years. I knew the lady that worked there and she palmed it off as a lucky coin.Keep Austin weird!No problem.

$4 Ikes spent in the following story: I paid a visit to a coin shop a half hour north of my house today. After looking though most of their meager inventory (including circulated Ikes of the quality I deemed spendable for $2 each) and not finding too much spectacular, I kinda did not want to leave the place empty handed. The last bin I decided to look though was a random $5 each bin. A 1916 Australian penny caught my eye enough to haggle for it a bit. I casually told the guy that was taking thing out of the case for me that I'd probably buy it for 4 Eisenhowers. He kind of dismisses my comment with out a word as he goes to take care of another customer. I fish 4 Ikes out of my pocket and lay them on the counter next to the coin and wait. He comes back "Dude, I thought you were joking! You really want me to go to the bank for $4" His last sentence I could not make sense of and did not know how to take, but I held firm. We were both a little dumbfounded after that, but he said "OK whatever" as took my Ikes. I said "Thank you" and I took the penny, placed it in my shirt pocket, and walked out! Later, $2 (Ike and Bicen halves) toward a treat of iced decaf coffee at Starbucks. $72,393 to go |
