It is a duplicate post (I don't know how it got there, honestly). Also, shouldn't the count be $97,476 if ninamason succeeded in giving out the SBA and Lincoln dollars in change?

Found another SBA in the drawer tonight on top of the previously-mentioned two. Handed it out. $97 487.

I assume that she only handed out one coin and her last number was 98487. I subtracted 9 from this number. So I think it is 98,478.

Dunno where my head has been - I just now spotted this thread.

I most often use the brass bucks for tips on a table, so I don't very often see reactions. I hope the waitresses don't think they're tarnished quarters and cuss me out for being cheap! Last night I added one to what I paid for at Sonic, a rather generous tip, if I may say so.

How many have I spent? Starting somewhere around Martin Van Buren I would buy two rolls at my credit union service center, extract one for the collection, and spend the rest. That has come to a screeching halt, however. But starting a couple of months ago I offered to buy all the dollar coins the cashier had in her tray at the counter, and the first time she had about $20.00 worth. My brother uses a bank in another town nearby, so when I go with him once a month when he makes his transactions, I buy up all the brass bucks that they have. So far we're talking about $50.

I'll let someone else do the math, if you want to count my contributions at all, but I'll try to keep track of what I spend from now on. I have ten of them (Sacs and prez) with me on a little reunion jaunt to my hometown in SE Kansas. No one here has blinked when I've used them, and only a few people have examined them over the past couple of years. My barber loves them - I think she gives them to her grandkids - and a few others have commented positively about them. I can't remember any negative comments, and when they go directly into the cash register, they seem to drop them in a center back spot, whatever that is.

As long as I can obtain them, I'll spend them. Frankly, although they weigh more than a dollar bill, they really form less a wad in my pocket than the same amount of dollar bills (I don't carry any bills in my wallet; I keep all my cash in my left front pocket.), and when I reach for change, the dollars are easy to separate from the other coins. Down with the dollar bill!
