Yesterday, I spent a single dollar coin to complement a $10 bill to pay for a ham and cheese sandwich, bottle of water, and potato chips at Newark Penn Station. Then, I spent $2.50 in halves to complement a quarter to buy a king size Twix bar on an Amtrak train.
Today, I spent a single half at a bookstore to complement $8 in bills to buy a copy of "Age of Innocence" by Edith Wharton for my sister. Then, I donated three halves to a nature center's donation box for their gift-wrapping of the book. In total, this was $5.50 in coins.
