I spent 1 half dollar at the bakery, 2 dollars and 1 half at the grocery store, 1 half on a hot dog, 1 dollar in the Salvation Army bucket.
I also spent a $10 bill and 1 half at Rite Aid. The clerk gave me 50 cents back (2 quarters) in change. I had a hard time convincing him that I was not supposed to get any change back. This is not the first time that I have gotten change back for a dollar from spending a half dollar. I love educating the public.
$84,609.50 to go.

Just spell out the amount that your handing them as you lay the money down. Its what I'll do every time I spend halves.
"That will be $10.42" "Here's ten-fifty!" (a ten and a half dollar)

Sometimes I state up front that it is a half dollar. But I also think it is fun to look at them try to figure out what I just gave them. I will never cheat anyone. I always tell them eventually.

I think it should be a requirement for cashiers to know their MONEY!! There are a lot of different coins out there and the younger generation may not be familiar with them.

My generation doesn't even know current money in the States... While Canadian youth know about them (almost every kid in my class had seen atleast a golden dollar!)
