This is a nice little pickup, a steal of sorts IMO.... MS-65 full bands.... Could someone please explain to me what full bands means by the way, sounds great what ever it is, lol? The second up-close pic is a wee bit blurry, but I kept it as it caught the great primary blueish/green color with a hint of a pink tone.... The reverse has a neat little blue to green to purple crescent moon....

Hawk . . nice run of silver. Nice color on the 82 Morgan. I see PCGS tagged the 61D Franklin as ".91 = Questionable Color". Hope it wasn't you who paid for the cost of the slab. But it is a nice piece to use when studying toned coins to determine if AT.

I love all the color! Have you been acquiring all these coins at the bullion shop? They are very beautiful coins! I have always learned that for a roosie to get FB, the bottom set of bands on the torch must be fully separated but after looking at PCGS website it appears that the top set of bands must also be fully separated. Here is a link to PCGS that has a picture explaining it. http://www.pcgs.com/Articles/Detail/3795It is a good thing to have the FB designation as it an indication of a better strike. I notice that you also purchased a nice Mercury dime which can sometimes come with the FB designation just like the roosie.

Hey thanks doubl3eagle, fantastic information that clears it all up for me. I have being seeing many full bands and was real curious of the meaning.... I have been getting most on ebay, BUT the 1878-S and the old 1982 Worlds fair commemorative coin came from a local coin shop I in which I DON'T work at, but stop by an check out the coins an bs with the owner who loves to talk coins an is real knowledgeable. He also gets in more numismatic slabbed stuff then my store, as we mostly have bullion an non slabbed items for the time being but things always changing.... Due to state tax, I don't get the best deals buying local, but I can buy from my store 10% over our buy price so as the company still makes out good, an so will I even after tax.... Buying on ebay may seem costly an high dollar, but I mostly ONLY bid on lower running auctions an avoid buy it nows. Via if I buy something at 75 bucks running auction, in my mind I better be able to list it at 125 to 150 if not a little more. I can also list it for free for a month now on ebay. When I time my listings right anyhow, an really don't wanna sell anything hence the high prices. But if someone wants it bad enough an clicks buy it now, I just upgrade again to better silver toned items.... I did snap on BIN on that Roosevelt dime 25 total, great price I figured, so there are exceptions to my no buy it nows. The slab cost 20 bucks, and I KNOW that dime is worth five bucks ALL DAY, an I will re-list it a weeee bit higher just is what it is.... That is why I refer to myself as Silverhawk, as I swoop down on unsupecting silver prey with my talons fulling extended, rof ....

Really nice coins, Hawk. Put my favorite down as that 1878 MS63 Morgan with the 1904 MS64 Morgan as a close 2nd. Both are real beauties.

Hey thanks Ed, the 1878-S MS-63 came from the shop on the other side of town at Bill's shop, as he has a great stock of slabs, from Eagles, to Ben's an Kennedy's, an Morgans, to old ancient coins an I like that numismatic angle.... I grabbed the 1904-New Orleans Ms-64 from a great ebay seller who deals mostly in color toned old slabbed coins out of the An Arbor area. It appears fire toned from again the right angle with a slight hint of a purple rim.... That was one of only two or three tone pieces in his entire store an I spotted it an grabbed it. It has a real darker color with multi green an blue and pink/champagne color even, when you tilt it in the right type of light. As I know you like more of the blast white silver as do I as well. I am a buffet guy, I like it all, lol.... Know doubt you would enjoy a trip through his store an ours, and good chance you would leave town BREACHING your 1000 oz. quota, lol....

I did not figure the colored coins were your cup of tea TBK, do you have any yet in your hoard? I tell you what, for you an all CCF members, anything in my store I will let anyone have at a 20% mark up from what I have in it, via the spot is still relevant, as it is right at now where it was when I added all these toned coins, which deviate well away from spot anyway.... You asked me about the coin on FB, I have 87.50 in it, so out the door shipped 105. Not a bad deal as I have that coin listed at 200 on ebay, as its color is exceptional, a real steal at 87.50.... Who else does that, and I never lie about what I got in anything, and any Dick Tracey can simply check my feedback as a buyer, an 9 out of 10 times you will find what I have in anything, short of private listing or me buying it around town locally, in which case you will just have to take my word for it, which is as good as gold ....

Reflexively, $25 for a slabbed silver dime seems high to me, but only because I don't collect US coinage and don't know a good price from a bad one. I do like the hues on a couple of these. Actually, one of your posts gave me the idea for a topic I just started.

T, I have learned a bit more since we last conversed on this, and you can use some of my coins for examples of how toning happened.... The biggest factor I figure for toning is acid. I understand even the ACID contained in common Teepee will tone coins right from your bathroom roll. Light as well via window seal, some chemicals used toned the coin instantly, but a good reputable grader knows the subtle differences.... For example the 1904-O BAG Toning very common. Notice the one Ben Franklin has a nice rounded DARK toned around the rim on th bell side, the pic in my hand or backside of the 1958-D, common example of end of the roll toning. the old rolls turned in on the ends an touched the coins, hence the end roll term.... The crescents are the same thing, but not of 360 degree circumference, via say for example 75% of the ACID rich paper was touching the rim of 3/4 of the coin an it was doing so in the shape of a crescent.... I am also gonna post a link in your thread you should read, GREAT info from the classic US coin section here at CCF.... https://goccf.com/t/115231

Also with a keen eye same pic bell side fire/rainbow Franklin in my hand with the 360 degree dark ring, notice on the bell it has what appears to be in the shape of a thumb print. Well, believe it to indeed be a human print as often happens on these coins, the very acids an oil from our very body will tone them an leave a mark, or I theorize at least.....
