Why are S minted coins significant? It seems they hold a special value to collectors. of course I notice some D mints are significant too but I read somewhere more than one to "save all the s mints". I just never read why.

For the more modern issues the S coins are generally PROOF only issues. Back in the early 1900's the SF mint generally had lower mintages and very good strikes so the coins look great! As to why they are good dates to save, it's all about the lower mintage numbers.

Great. So in general SF has had lower production, but occasionally another mint will have a low production like 1916 dimes from Denver. Thanks.

Everyone is just waiting for California to fall off into the ocean from an Earthquake, so coins from there may end up like a momento of the past. Sort of like finding a coin from Atlantis.

That is interesting. I never think about other places where similar Mint Marks may occur. Wonder why no one on this forum never made a list of such similarities.
