I see the mint increased the mintage on the 9th coin in this series..closer to some of the earlier releases...I had to order one...I have the complete set..there so affordable...and have done well in the After market..it took a few years...but once they took flight...they really flew..

Hopefully, it will be like the early releases and not actually reach the expected mintage. Though realistically, I suspect we will see all 20k units being minted. I think the 2012 coin is the nicest looking bird yet.

While I have the whole series too, I still don't understand the appeal of the Nuthatch at >$350.

The bird-watching community has caused a disturbance in the numismatic force... The Nuthatch coin, they do love...

The nuthatch is the one I payed the most for..I bought it from a dealer for $59.00...in 2010...and look what it's going for today...I think the series has really taken off as of late because more and more women are collecting now...I'm sure this trend will help with the bug and bee coins too....and yes the new release is nice...

Funny story about the Nuthatch that happened around one year ago.

I was looking for one (a nuthatch) on ebay for a few weeks. I even had a special search url saved. I was checking it every 30-60 minuets during my work hours (yes a big no-no) to see if I could get one.

Anyways, after a few weeks, I saw one listed with a buy it now of $ 35.00 (yup that's thirty five, not three hundred & fifty). Took me all of 5 seconds to click on "buy it now".

When I spoke to the owner of the auction, he could not believe what I did. He had just posted the auction and it was sold within 5 minuets.

Sometime a little perseverance goes a long way.

^Does this have to end? There is a lot of birds. This is the type of collection that has the potential to carry on for a long time.

@Koin Hunter, at least one more this year, that's for sure. Two per year after all.

I wonder if coin series are like TV shows. If the mint makes a coin that's part of a series and the coin sells out, they should make another one. If the coin does poorly in sales, then oh, that was the last one.

Yes your right jpalva83..we will see another this year..a summer release I bet.....it really is a great series...and the new birds get better each time..
Wonder if the mint will start an upgraded version.....colored bird on silver...would cost more...but I bet it would be popular...

@Koin Hunter, bird on silver, hmmm....not a bad idea, but if they did that, it would be an end to the current series and the start of a new one. Not a bad idea at all....

But, you and I know what will happen... The first coin of this new series would be sold out during the preview time by speculators hoping that this new coin would be another "Nuthatch". :)

Good move. I couldn't resist and sold mine for $450 in September last year. I figured I could eventually buy it back once the frenzy is over. NCLT does that sometimes. I saw an ebay auction at around $350 in March. I was tempted...
