hey guys, I have a couple pounds of the large 2 pence and 1 pence british coins from unsearched world coin lots I bought off ebay. I did some research on wikipedia and came up a bronze metal composition. I already seperated the newer magnetic ones by using a huge magnet. But I have no clue what the copper content percentagewise of the older ones are. I'd appreciate any help, thanks :D

The bronze alloy varied a little, but not much. Not less than 97% copper, with tin and zinc being the variable amounts. The reason for the variation has to do with the fact that old bronze pennies were sometimes recycled. Their record of alloy also has slight variation.

A common alloy is 97% copper, 2.5% tin, 0.5% zinc.

Being bronze alloy, the tin is always in the majority of the alloying metals, 1.5% to 2.5% being normal.
Rest in Peace
