Cool article. The guy is good! Three rare varieties, including a discovery coin, in a few years. All off of ebay!

Quote:
Downey planned to bring the coin with him to the March 31 to April 3 Whitman Coin & Collectibles Baltimore Expo and accept bids through noon Eastern Time April 2, with the coin selling to the higher bidder. According to Downey, he would not charge a buyer's fee and would reduce the winning bid to 10 percent over the second highest bid.

It said he would put it up for auction until April 2nd, so it must have sold? How much did it sell for?

Nice of him to give the winner a discount too.

not really a discount, they take offers and who ever offers the most wins it, it is kind of like a fantasy bid. The other person doesn't know what the other offers are and the seller will reduce the winners bid to 10% over what the second highest bid was no matter what his maximum was. Its the same way ebay does it, you can bid 2500.00 but if the second highest bis is only 200.00 you will get it for the next increment above 200.00
