I disagree, it is an authentic paper weight.

Zoiks! Counterfeit. And a poor one at that. "ET PLURIBOS ONUM?" Ut si!

And it's too light to be a paper weight for anything but post-it notes (and they tend to stick when you put them as it is). :-)

*Head-Desk*

I misread it and thought it was ounces, not grams. LOL

For the record, the design "intended" is that of the Indian Head Eagle (1907-1933).
So apparently the theoretical counterfeiter didn't even know that 1850 eagles didn't look anything like that

Heck, if that wasn't silver I probably would've thought this was some kind of play piece (it's just random enough to be one). But I just can't see anyone making a play piece out of silver.

Seller is pretty upfront with his being clueless as to what it is:

TEN ( 10) DOLLARS 1850 ?, SILVER COIN , FANTASY ? ERROR ? ET PLURIBOS ONUM

also interesting is "On God We Trust"

Guess the English is tough in Romania

I wouldn't mind betting that this coin is near the correct weight for a real gold coin. With the lesser density of metal from which it is made, the thickness has to be greater to achieve correct weight.

WOW, I had no idea the mottos had changed, now we trust On God intstead of In God, and "and the burden of many" (et pluribis onum) replaced, "e pluribus unum"

This auction is a good reminder that not all fakes come out of China/SE Asia, Eastern Europe is a hotbed for counterfeiting as well. The starred rim is a nice touch though

A lot of bids on this considering the buyer is given no details. Wonder if these bidders know whats going on? I respect the buyer for being very honest with the listing though. Yep, respect for sure.
