I attended our local coin show yesterday.
As I was examining the coins being offered by one of the dealers a man turned to me and said, "How are you doing?"
He must have seen the puzzled look on my face so he said,
"We met last month at the table over there."
Well, I remembered. He and his son had examined a box of ancient coins priced at eight dollars apiece. The lad picked out two: one for him and one for his sister.
So I asked the boy if he did indeed give one to his sister.
Of course he did!
So the lad and I each turned our attention to examining the coins which had caught our eyes.
Now, this young collector was captivated by a
Kennedy half dollar. He has a good eye. The dealer told him that it has a very nice cameo.
It was marked $9. When the dad confirmed that THIS was the coin that the son wanted, the dealer said, "You can have it for $8.
I then said, "You better not leave before letting me take a closer look."
Eye appeal aplenty!
I told the boy, "You will be very happy that you decided to buy this coin."
Be it at the
ANA show this August or at your local coin show, it makes you feel good to share your enthusiasm with the new generation of collectors.
