Whats up folks, I bought 2012 proof from the US mint, havent gotten it in yet, but probably should in the next few days. I have no inentions of ever selling it, going by the whole December 2012 thing I decided to just leap in and buy one. Considering all things aside if we dont all perish on that fateful day, I'd like to just keep the coin for that reason. Maybe give it to my son or my grandson when that time comes. Will it be worth alot? I have no idea, and quite frankly don't really care about the investment value. However I have done extensive research and am not sure if the mint gives out PF-70's, the coin must be of that grade, or I can always cancel and buy elsewhere. I want it to be perfect, and also how do I store it to protect it from any oxidation, tarnish, any discoloration. MY plan was just to shove it (With the protective casing of course) in the back of my dresser and forget about it for now. Any tips?

Most proofs from the mint grade at least PR-68... As far as storage, just keep them away from drastic heat, but more importantly- moisture...

They come in the protective casing if I am not mistaken, so if I put them in my desk (top shelf) its pretty cool in my home, I dont have to do anything than? Just get it, look at it, throw it in and it should be the same 20 years later? Considering I dont touch it for 20 years and I do not move etc.

Coins can still tone ( change color) no mater what you put them in as far as I know. But most people like the way coins tone naturally. Just hope it tones nice not like some of the green pennies I have proofs of. Best of luck

to CCF. If your looking for a Proof 70 set you will have to buy a slabbed set by PCGS, IMHO. John1

There are many, many who have collected coins for years that can't tell the difference between a 69 and 70, so I don't think that a 68-69 will be that bad, it may look perfect in your eyes, and yours from the mint will not likely be a 70, if you really want perfection buy a 70 already graded. They will go for more a premium than a 68-69 though, so be prepared for that.

Collecting proof coins are fun, sometimes when they tone they tone nicely. As long as the area you store them in is cool and dry it should be fine.

Not sure why we collect those sets but so many of us do. Mostly I need the Proof coins for Albums. Many coin Albums require a P, D and S Mint coin for each year and since the only S Minted coins are Proofs, the sets are broaken open for the individual cois. Many collect the sets and I'm sort of one of those. No idea why. The sets are put in boxes and put on a shelf never to be seen again. I've been doing that for as long as there have been Proof and Uncirculated sets from the Mint. Now well up to a few boxes of those and no one ever sees them including me. I suggest just putting them away for tomorrow. Or the next day, the day after that and on and on and on.
