I've been trying to win this set for many months now but was always outbid. I actually lost this auction, as well, but the top buyer dropped out and I jumped at ebay's "Buy it Now" option. His loss is my gain. Anyway, some history. The motif is biblical, of course. Especially of note is the Jonah and the Whale coin. It won coin of the year honors for 2012, which makes this set even more collectible. The mintage was only 500, which is rare enough to make it a challenge getting a hold of a set. I haven't received the coins yet so I just borrowed the pic from the seller. They were released by the Bank of Israel. I believe the currency is called the new shekel.

Simple designs can be the most brilliant perhaps, as I as well really like that piece as well as entire series....

Most interesting to note the History channel an their most entertaining (to me anyway, lol) Ancient Aliens series is now saying Jonah was swallowed by not a living whale, but captured by a USO (unidentified submerged object), and as long as the guy with the crazy hair says its so, I am on board, rof....

Also, was the chariots of fire in the sky also been made reference too in that same text (a UFO rather than USO) for eons now actually, and also not IF my bible knowledge is not off, but is that not also from the book of Daniel, which in fact the other coin looks to be a clear representation of Daniel in the lions den....

Judging by the hair, I betcha it's Samson. Not sure, just a guess. I have no idea what the chariot represents. Hopefully the COA will have the info.

"Elijah in the Whirlwind" according to the Bank of Israel web site. The other two coins are titled "Jonah in the belly of the fish" and "Samson and the Lion" respectively. A very nice pick up, traevin!

Thanks, CW. I don't remember that one from bible school. I have to admit, I'm drawing a complete blank on Elijah.

Very nice, exotic collectibles for sure. Great pick up!

Hawk... as to ancient aliens, my bet is that one of these days we're gonna find out that the Earth is a protected primitive life preserve and only the alien universities can send anyone here to do research. Don't wanna upset those primitives. They might get hysterical and raise a fuss!

They're all sterling, Po. I seldom buy anything below that, actually. I bought this set more for the investment, in truth. I've seen what happens to the prices of low mintage coins once they get the "Coin of the Year" treatment. This set will be worth double, if not triple, what I had to pay to get it, IMO. And it won't take more than two or three years to get there.

I was watching the auction below with a lot of interest since it would tell me if the price I paid was good, fair, or bad. After shipping, just the single Jonah in the Whale coin went for over $200. It's the highest I've seen it go and it hints at good things to come for my set.

Do you know which version you have? Apparently there are 2 sets: one where each coin is ~.4 oz, and another set where the coins are ~.9 oz.

Strange weights, but cool coins! Available, at APMEX.. might actually pick them up!

Found a dealer offering this set:

Have you received yours, traevin? How do they feel in hand?

I'm still waiting for it, Am. It's coming from Italy. One of the big European distributors. Should be here any day now. My price was much closer to the APMEX price than Downies, though.
