If it was any other spiked chin, I would say $200 would be a nice starting point. Because of the Cuds, I would venture to guess this would be a nice rare Cohen variety. I wouldn't be surprised if it was snatched up for the BIN.

This one would worry me about authenticity, here is why: The metal around the 200 and United does not look right. In several places, another metal seems to be showing through (in the bust drape in this image) OK, let's here from the experts!

Nope! There were some things about it that didn't look right but I think wiser minds (i.e. Moe ) who have chimed in on it.

Nothing wrong with the reverse, those are Cuds and indicate that the die was near failure. They would also be diagnostics for the die state to determine the specific variety. I would grade it VF, nice coin with no obvious signs of porosity or corrosion.

And Biokemist ( ). Thanks for the educational comments. I think next time will post in the form of a question when I am not sure.

1804 C-6 R-2. Not a rare variety but it comes in a LOT of different die states and is actively collected by die state. Breen lists 16 die states and I believe some specialists list more states than that. As near as I can tell this is somewhere between States XII or XIII. The left hand Cud doesn't extend to the top of I in UNITED until XIII, but the crack is not as heavy through the left to of M in AMERICA as shown on XIII. On the other hand the Cud from A to the right ribbon end is heavier on this coin than on XIII. Since these are collected by die state so much it tends to make them more costly than an R-2 would ordinarily be because each collector needs 16 to 20 coins.
