Won this in an auction:

Finally-Found-This-Last-Chinese-Coin!-Yunnan-Sichuan

Just what is this coin?

There is a period of time (1906-1909) when a single character is used to denote the origin of where the coin is struck or intented to circulate. While most of the coins were easy to find, some were a bit tougher for instance these:

Jilin (Kirin)

Qingjiang (Tsingkiang)

Jiangxi (Kiangsi)

Yunnan

The rest of my Chinese coins can be seen here: http://www.gxseries.com/numis/china...province.htm

So why is the first coin rare? It's just a difference of one character. This coin is actually struck or circulated in the Yunnan-Szechuan Province. Note, this is very unusual because while Yunnan and Szechuan were seperate provinces, this denotes BOTH provinces.

This coin alone is worth more than the rest of the single character copper coins put together - it's that scarce.

Maybe you might be able to find a similar one in your dealer's junk coin box?

I have about 20 or so 10 cash coins. Trying to build a
'one of each province' sub collection. Relative to these coins, I most probably don't have a rarity. Perhaps worth investigating.

Safer to collect the bronze coins, to lessen the possibility of fakes.

Also have about 100 or so cast cash coins, most dynasties. Most of these were accumulated 20+ years ago, for 10 to 20 cents each.

augsburger: No, it wasn't cheap at all but cheaper than what I've seen in the market. In similar condition, it would be going well easily over 200 dollars. I'm not joking - it's that expensive. Here's one example that went cheap: http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAP...p=true&rt=nc

sel: Use my page for a rough guide. It should illustrate what provinces the coins come from. You might have something there since those coins were really cheap just 2-3 years ago. 20 cash in general are worth a fair bit more especially in better condition as well as from some provinces. Please feel free to post them here and I'll answer what I can.

Nice coins! I do have a Yunnan Szechuan 10 and 20 Cash and the large and small varieties of the Tien mintmarked Yunnan 10 cash. The Kirin 10 cash is scarce with two or three varieties. I do not have that, but have the scarcer 20 Cash 1909 Kirin. Wonderful coins.

Noticed that you had some Kiangsoo and Kiangsi 10 Cash with the central mintmark. Have the variety for Kiangsi I think with the dot pupils. Again, many varieties!

Nice coins Gxseries!

To add to the complexity, there are other denominations as well - 1 cash, 2 cash, 5 cash, 20 cash.

I haven't kept track of everything as this got way out of hand. These are the examples:

10 cash is the easiest to complete. The rest is just hard...

Nice coins! I do have the smaller denominations once, such as the Hupeh 2 Cash and the Fukien 5 Cash. Now they are sold. Some 20 cash that I have are from Chihli, Fengtien and Kirin and the central mints. I will post them shortly.

Thank you!
