It would seem the carribou has abandoned the queen on this one sided quarter I just aquired. i included a video to show it's not fake. Gatewest Coin and Stamp in Winnipeg offered me $250 for it which I happily DECLINED. It shall stay in my collection much longer ( unless I get a better offer haha ) heres the video http://s34.photobucket.com/albums/d...DSCN2422.mp4Edited by Imohtep 04/15/2012 09:03 am

The other half? If this is a struck through die cap, there is no "other half". The die with the caribou is covered (capped) with another planchet. If you had the die cap, it itself would be valuable but to determine it was the one that caused this would be impossible.

they examined the coin for quite awhile at gatewest and came to the conclusion that 2 planchets got stuck together, one got struck with the queen and one with the carribou. I don't know much about errors as I only own 3 now. They said that somewere out there should be a coin just like this one but with the carribou and date on one side and blank on the other. I'm just tellin you guys what they told me.

I'm not doubting that that's what they said, it just doesn't make sense to me.
Excellent find, nonetheless! I'm really envious! All I find are blank quarter planchets. This one blows those away!

Lucky find Imohtep, were you roll searching ? I guess even with all the new high tech quality controls at the mint some nice errors still slip past. What are your other errors ? Must be something up with my tablet, it's been double posting.

Great find imohtep! I'm no expert, but it seems to me that your coins caribou partner won't be as impressive,it will have a faint image of the queen on the obverse as your coin has an incuse ghosted image of the queen on its reverse.

Hey ImohtepI analysed your 2nd picture of a clipped quarter and to me it looks more like PMD...See the picture...Of course it is only my and the programs opinion...

Wert, if you look at the first picture of the clipped quarter, directly across from the clip is a part of the rim that is messed up as well, this only happens when the coin gets clipped. I had Gatewest Coin and Stamp verify that it was a genuine error

Imohtep...I am not doubting their findings, as they (and yourself) had the coin in hand to see for themselves. I was just testing out this new program. I take it all back...Hey, very nice find.... Just for the heck of it, here is your clipped coin and the program >I use does show a true clip...Go figure...?

Actually, Imohtep, while your coin does have a weak brockage, your coin was not the first strike with the die cap. Somewhere, out there, is the first-strike brockage with the image of the obverse fully visible in mirror image....
The real value to that would be finding the die cap, and the first couple of strikes prior to your coin being struck. Yes, it can be done... but such sets are quite rare...

Thanks for the explanation SPP-Ottawa! Brockage didn't even enter my mind. That makes sense!
The clipped coins have the Blakesley effect which is the weakness directly opposite the clip. Definitely errors.
