Disclaimer: By no means I have the complete sets, but a good representation. Still working on completing them.

In 1918 Estonia declared itself independent (of Russian Empire).

Then it was swallowed by the Soviet Empire and circulated rubles & kopecks.

3. Kroon = 100 Senti (1991 - 2011) In 1991 the republic reinstated its independence.

4. In 2011 Estonia joined Euro-zone. I think they should have kept the lions instead of the boring map.

Thank you for sharing. I have never seen any of the Marka.

I did not know that they had joined the Euro. I also prefer the lions to the map. I think it's disappointing that some countries have the same design for each coin when there is the potential for multiple designs.

I remember when the Baltic states declared (re)independence and it was a very tense time. . .

You really have a good representation of Estonian coins there! Though some coins are a bit harder to get I think the total amount of different types are very reasonably to complete.Personally I'm thinking where all those 1990's Cu-Ni kroons have went?Cheapest one I have met was priced 15x face and was still ugly. Never seen one in bulk lots or junk bins but the other moderns are relatively common here.

While I do not like this "uniformity" either, that is exactly what the Estonians wanted. They had a design competition, and in a public telephone vote people could pick their favorite among ten design sets. There were several proposals with three or even eight different designs, but Lembit Lõhmus won. At least some minor differences were added when the coins were minted - raised vs incused map, and the depicted islands. The map or outline of the country actually looks interesting, also on a coin, but I found the result of the vote quite strange as well ...
