Thought I'd share some of my recent acquisitions from the previous month. Here is one of them, Antoninus Pius, with Salus feeding a snake on the reverse. When I took the photos of this and the other coins I just posted, the sky was grey but the photos came out better than I'd thought they would turn out luckily. If you want to attribute, give it a shot. Edited by VisigothKing 04/16/2012 2:29 pm

OH my God! That coin is so darn UGLY!!
Just kidding. Haha.
Looks like a nice hole filler to me and you can make out a lot of details for a possible attribution. If the price was low, I'd purchase it, perhaps.

It's not ugly, just well circulated. It has enough detail to clearly see who the emperor is and make out the reverse. We should all looks so good at almost 1900 years old.

I don't think it's ugly I have a few in that condition. Nice dupondius at a great price. Could that be RIC 798 ANTONINUS PIUS A.D. 138-161 Æ Dupondius. Obv. ANTONINVS PIVS AVG PIVS P P TR P, Radiate head right. Rev. COS IIII S C, Fortuna standing left feeding snake rising from altar and holding rudder set on globe. 15.3gm 26mm RIC 798

I could be wrong that was just a quick guess. I just purchased a similar looking coin with that attribution. I'm not much of a numbers person, I collect by emperors, provinces, and reverse type coins. I'm working on a few type sets right now.

I would be happy with it for $10.

That's all right, almost got it though. It's not 798, so I'll give 2 hints: Part of the obverse legend is ANTONINVS AVG PIVS, and Salus isn't holding a rudder (I can tell by the position of her arm, its different than how she has it in 798.

I think it's a great coin--the wear shows how long the coin saw use. $10 is a nice price!
