Looks like a perfectly acceptable coin, albeit a common date. Grade is probably around AU-55. The photos aren't detailed enough to assess possible problems like cleaning. You might remove it from the holder, light it more brightly and take the photo from straight above the coin to get good focus over the entire piece.

Eh, Jaobler - that hair looks 53 but those fields are so clean from here!

Treasure, Jaobler's photography advice is right on, but I want to commend you for excellent photography considering your experience here.

Those minor tweaks Jaobler suggests will assist us greatly in giving you a better idea of a grade, and if you're interested, value.

On the face of it, you done good.

Yes, a common date but a good find at $8 at a flea market. I'll get more pics up asap and maybe someone of you will get a closer look at her. Thanks for opinions.

$8? That would be a good price for a mutilated Morgan! Nice buy!

Yes, I thought so too. Guy had a table full of 'things sitting in attic' The morgan was one of 3 silver dollars on the table. Told me they were in a box full of old newspapers. he hit me at $8 and of course I grabbed it. A closer look and I thought it could be a AU.

I had a bit of remorse, but then again: he did appear quite 'excited' that I bought it. I looked it over and over before purchasing, thinking it a fake but it felt and weighed good. Nothing about it screamed 'fake'. I was overall feeling pretty good for such a find.

That's a great buy for $8! Did you do the magnet test and weigh it? It's entirely possible it's a newer fake, in which case they're very good... but you'd think unlikely given it's a common date.

Looks nice to me. Especially for $8. Well done.

Oh yeah, once I returned home, I did apply the magnet test and weighed her. It weighed in at 26.7grams. If its a fake.. it's that good. Which reminds me.. not too long ago I had a guy bring in some 'gold' Kruggerands into our shop. Brings in 5 of them and says he would like $8,000 for em. Upon feeling them, I was suspicious. Gave them over to my pal for a second look and he also felt it was wrong. I weighed all 5 and every one of 'em weighed about 1.06 troy ounces. Told him we won't be making no such deal.

Nice buy for $8!

I would like to disagree with the first two comments by saying that it probably would grade higher than AU. It's a very weakly struck coin (which is what the earlier coins from the New Orleans Mint is known for), and from what I can tell in the picture it still has original luster.

On top of that, the fields are clean except for on the left of the obverse and on the cheek, which is very common for bag marks.

Like they said, it's hard to grade based off the photos, but that's my opinion from what I can see.

I think I land with cj here. Weaker strike MS coin. Regardless, awesome find at 8 bucks. I'd buy every one you could give me at that price. LOL

I think this is at least a AU-58 with a very good possibility of being MS. For just $8, you got a fabulous deal!

Great buy for 8 bucks. Looks to be in decent grade though from the picture I can't say an estimated grade.
