Hey all, I have the moose, cougar, and grizzly now... Can someone give me some input/information on as to why the timber wolf is so hard to find and more expensive then the other 3? I get supply/demand but didnt they make the same amount of all 4 wildlife coins?

I gather that people like the timber wolf better than the other three so I think people are just buying it more. I know that a lot of people really dislike the cougar design.

I believe that similar to a lot of issues, the first one in the series is the most popular.
Of the four, I prefer the Moose and the Wolf.

You can try the 2006 1/2 oz wolf instead. Same design but only half the price!

I think everyone pretty much nailed it. It was the first in the series, it looks nice, and silver was not only more expensive then, but people were going crazy buying into silver at the time. The silver buzz has died off since then. The Cougar and Grizzly are not very attractive coins; although, the Cougar looks better in person. The Moose is the nicest looking in my opinion, but silver just isn't as popular right now. I think the Moose will probably do better in the longterm.

it was sept 2010 when wolf first released, silver was not expensive, I got my wolves at around 26-28 each.
2006 half oz wolf has 1/10 mintage of 2011's, it should be more collectable

irregardless of how expensive silver was at the time of release, the wolf's become a semi-numismatic coin now. It'll rise slower with spot's silver's rise and never quite fall when spot falls. Being the first of a series, and a first that broke a streak of standard designs (the wolf's the first non-maple 1oz silver maple leaf issued en-mass), it's going to be expensive, period

I missed out on the initial offering of Wolves, and bought one at the same time as the Grizzly and paid $50 for it. But I paid something like $43 for the Grizzly too, so I guess it wasn't a big premium at the time, although it looks like that premium has grown since then. This was around the time of the spike in spot silver last year.
You can still get the Grizzly today for about the same price as the Cougar and the Moose, but you're gonna pay for that Wolf!

Quote: 2 silver maple wolves for $54 Each after shipping That is a decent price for the wolf SML. I'm sure you guys all know this but there are some made in the USA imitations out there, so buyer beware. For example ebay Item number: 180862230182. This seller is clear that the coin is not RCM issue but some sellers are not so forthright.

yeah, cc-ottawa I've seen alot of the fake wolf's on ebay. I actually got my 2 on ebay but from a 1500+ power seller that has a picture of both front/back of the coin and clearly list Royal Canadian Mint silver maple in the description. I got lucky messaging him to combine shipping and give me a package price.

Unless I'm mistaken, a new wildlife coin for the series should be coming out shortly, is that right?
