The unseasonable warm/hot weather has made me lazy, so I am asking this question without due research on my part. Prior to the years before Newfoundland joined the other provinces of Canada, did its coins and Canadian coins occasionally cross the border?
My poor example of a 1947 Newfoundland dime keeps reminding me to ask.

I'm sure they crossed the border in the same way Canadian and American coins crossed borders. Occasionally I get coins from overseas in my change. A couple months ago I received a 1 Yuan from Taiwan the cashier thought was a penny.

Thought you were going to ask if NFL coins are under valued..... that answer would be a big fat YES.

Quote: coingirl Thought you were going to ask if NFL coins are under valued..... that answer would be a big fat YES. ^Yes, Newfoundland coins are definitely undervalued. Large and small cents with lot mintages of 200,000 to under 500,000 can be had for under $2 each. I purchased several large cents for 99ยข each with mintages of 200,000 to 300,000. The last Newfoundland cent, the 1947 with mintage of 313,733 can be had for under $2. That's a bargain for such a rare coin. It's a sleeper series.

Just hoping those price increases hold off until I've completed my set!

A price increase would be nice but I don't think it's going to happen soon. The coins are undervalued but the demand is just to small for the prices to be pushed up.
My favorite coin from Newfoundland is the 1885 dime. The price starts at about $100 and they only made 8000 coins.

NO Newfoundland coins are NOT undervalued: the prices reflect the fact that they are UNDER COLLECTED! No one cares and the designs are all pretty ugly .Also the coins are NOT part of the Canadian series of decimals as they are considered to be British colonial /Empire related.

I have collected NF bronze for many years now. Like others, I was attracted to their rarity versus Canadian cents, plus a desire to assemble a complete mint state set of Victorian decimal bronze from the Province of Canada, the Dominion of Canada, NF, NB, NS, and PEI.
In my opinion, the price of NF coins remains low, particularly in high grades, because the very low supply of high grade coins mutes collector demand. Hard to form top of the market demand when only a few coins are available. Try finding a mint state 1880 oval O, 1885, or 1888 cent. I know of only two complete mint state NF cent sets, mine and one other. With no top level demand, the market remains soft at all levels.
All JMHO. In Las Vegas today visiting my son. Headed to high 90's F today with bright desert sun.
