Now we can't list ANACS coins as certified? That's nuts. ICG I can kind of understand, ANACS is raw now? That's a raw deal.

This *is* nuts, provided it's true. ebay has become even more hostile to coin collectors as they only hap-hazardly enforce their new numismatics rules as it is.

I figured out whats going on while trying to send a message or an email to ebay complaining about the new policy. Here's the catch.... You can't send a message to ebay!! So when they say the policy is in response to 'customer feedback' what they really mean is the one guy setting the coin policy in the back room of ebay H.Q. is partial to PCGS and NGC for whatever reason(either by preference, or being paid off). Sad turn for ebay.

For anyone who didnt get the Email, here it is "As coin collecting continues to grow and thrive on ebay, customers have told us time and again that knowing they can buy and sell with confidence is important. We'll be updating ebay's Stamps, currency, and coins policy to help foster that confidence--this update may impact your coin listings. Starting May 30, all new listings and relistings in coin categories will need to meet the following requirements: First, listings for coins will be allowed to include a numeric grade in their listing title or item description only if the coin grading company meets certain objective standards.* Coins that haven't been graded by these companies will be considered raw or ungraded. Currently, ebay has determined that only the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) and the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) meet these standards. Second, for US coins only, grading by companies meeting these standards will now be required for all coins listed with a Buy It Now, reserve, or start price of $2,500 and above. Good 'Til Cancelled listings will have until June 30th to comply with the revised policy. Listings that don't comply by these dates will be ineligible for relist or renewal and will be removed. We've heard from both buyers and sellers that they'd like to see more coins on ebay graded by companies who meet high standards. These new requirements are an important step toward meeting these marketplace demands. Take action now to ensure your listings comply with these new changes. As always, thank you for selling on ebay, ebay Selling Team"

Like previously mentioned, the seller will just have to be a little creative with the title listing. Just another speed bump in the numismatic field of ebay, they may stray away from ebay for a day. Oy Vey!

Quote: We've heard from both buyers and sellers that they'd like to see more coins on ebay graded by companies who meet high standards. Who are these buyers and sellers? High standards? I've gotten coins back from PCGS that were so far off the mark, it wasn't even funny. I do like NGC though.

Since ANACS is accepted by the numismatic community as a reputable grader, how can ebay just declare the are no longer recognized?

Because ebay has zero numismatic knowledge or experience. In my opinion, the only person on their staff who seems to know heads or tails of anything numismatic is Judith who handles most of their coin-related complaints, and I doubt she's involved in any policy-making decisions. Could this be due to pressure from the PNG/NGC/PCGS push to "clean up" ebay?

I read elsewhere that "the ablity to verify cert numbers online" played into the decision to eliminate ANACS and ICG.

I have to say ANACS does have to improve their website to incorporate that.

If ebay is not going to allow ANACS, then drop NGC too! I got a MS66 NGC 2009 LP1 cent with a dent on rim...Looks like *** Edited by Staff | The bad word filter is in place for a reason. Bypassing the filter and making the intended word obvious anyway is completely unacceptable. ***PCGS is better/harder grader than NGC, just look at same 70 coin and PCGS coin will sell for more $$ than NGC. I'll take ANACS over NGC

Wow, I'm really not sure what to make of this. On the one hand, they're taking good steps to protect stupid buyers, but on the other hand, they're alienating good sellers and solid products. Hm. This smells like a lible suit against ebay for claiming that ANACS, ICG and SEGS don't meet "their grading standards". Furthermore, this could be the beginnings of an anti-trust suit! ICG and SEGS couldn't do it on their own, but with ANACS, they might have enough to pull it together?

I had no idea you couldn't check an ANACS cert number on their website. That's actually not an unreasonable requirement, IMO. ANACS and ICG are dropping the ball if you still can't do that.
