While we're talking cobs, some of the best values I got were on 1765-1770 Potosi 4 reales from Harlan Berk. Some are still available on their site, though the ones with readable dates are mostly sold. They're jet black in color, and I'm guessing they're from the supposed Seville (?) harbor find mentioned in Sedwick. HLB offered no provenance and would sell them to walk-up customers for $75.

THQ, interesting tip... but where are they? I've peeked at his site b4, never noticed those, and a more thorough search isn't locating them? Do you have a precise link?

You're right. They used to be listed under Bolivia, but I hadn't checked for a while. You might give them a call or send an e-mail. Maybe someone bought everything they had left, but I doubt it.

Over the years I've gotten some nice world coin bargains in their misc. coins during store visits - several of the 4R Potosi cobs, an English Charles I hammered half crown, and a French 1846-K franc.
