I came across this German East Africa 12 Rupien today on ebay:

Just another Chinese knockoff. Then I read the sellers name and got a good chuckle. Maybe it has a more favorable connotation in the native country?

The genuine coins are crude too--that would be an easy one to copy.

, the genuine ones were made under almost shed conditions as well. Helps to explain why there are so many fakes.

Right. Those Tabora 15 Rp coins are probably the only Notgeld or Kriegsgeld (emergency/war money) issues in gold. :)

With only "private" auctions, I would be extremely careful.
The price is close to the one you may find at professional dealers in Germany.
I wouldn't even dare to consider taking the risk.

When compared side by side with a genuine example, this coin is definitely suspicious. It just lacks the overall sharpness of an original. Also the location of the coin is a dead givaway. Its a pity, its such a nice looking coin (I was eyeing one at an auction last week, but its way out of my price league.)
