This one is in an older, smaller ANACS slab. How would you grade it?

Don't know enough about Jeff.
So, my guess is MS-62, NOT Full Steps!

MS-63 and I'm not sure what qualifies a coin as "full steps". This one must be close though.

Possibly MS65 probably MS64 If it were a toss in horseshoes, I would say you have a "leaner" but not a ringer for full steps but they might have given it to you.For a guess at what grade it got I will take a long shot at MS65FS toned with a medium strike.

Remember it doesn't have to have full steps for a higher grade... I had a very similar one, and it was MS-66 by PCGS... MS-66 all the way

Thanks for all of the grades. Here is the ANACS grade: I think it has an outside chance at crossing to MS65FS at PCGS. I only paid about $30 for it so I am planning on including it with my next crossover submission. These really jump up in value at 65FS and 66FS so I think it is worth the gamble. I'll share my results here.

i agree laywer.
it looks FS to me. BUT there seems to be a smudge at the last/first step. the one closest to MONTICELLO, above the "T".
but other than that. reason is, I just received a PCGS MS66 45-d from another ccf member and it has a similar smudge on the bottom steps. it did not receive a full step. but yours does look a bit cleaner than mine

SDcoinguy, PCGS requires 5 Full Steps for the FS designation. I see what you are referring to above the T, but I think that smudge prevented the coin from being 6FS. I am more concerned with the weakness on the 3rd step between the T and I. For those of you that are interested, here is a link to a great explanation of the full steps designation that I find helpful: http://varietynickels.com/pages/jef...ll-steps.php

Are you going to stipulate not to crack it open if it doesn't meet the grade you're looking for?

Quote: Are you going to stipulate not to crack it open if it doesn't meet the grade you're looking for? Yes, I will state that it has to meet a minimum of MS65FS on my crossover submission. If it doesn't, they will send it back to me unopened in the ANACS slab.
