Hi,

I also picked up this 1827 Coronet Large Cent at the same yard sale that I picked up an 1867 Shield nickel.

I feel pretty confident that this one is a fake but wanted to read what the other members also feel.

The date looks all wrong, IMO. Here's a couple of 1827 LCs for comparison:

I'm not that experienced with large copper cents but the edge doesn't look right. The rim doesn't look even from 3 to 6 o clock on the obverse.

Aye, date looks a bit anemic compared to the rest of the strike (specifically the thickness of the 1; that's completely off).

I'd say your hunch is correct.

Interesting, it's actually overweight. I'm guessing that's a pretty good indicator. Also, the berries on your reverse in some cases aren't berries, but rather just stems.

10.89 grams is the correct weight.
Yours is too heavy by .42
I'd say contemporary counterfeit but those are in most cases lighter.
