Quote: What was the release price of the 2010 Poppy Silver dollar? The coin was released at $139.95 (CDN). It had a limited mintage of 5,000. FYI: The $139.95 issue price is the highest to date for a RCM silver dollar. The price was used for the 2008 High-Relief Poppy Dollar, the 2010 High-Relief Sun Dollar and the 2010 Enameled Poppy Dollar.

Commens, Have you or any others heard or have knowledge of what might be in the offing in terms of war commemoratives for November 2014 in addition to what's already been released?

Great info and confusing ( RCM prices chart): The regular Silver Dollar priced as a half of this price. I understand the HR coins, where the some different work involved. Ok, enamel? But even the 2013 "The Shield" 1oz .9999 silver with hand-applied enamel plus license to DC was priced $129 (or $119?) Or was it priced relatively high, in order to prevent "quick flipping", since the high issue price minimize the profits.

The price was more like a function of the low mintage. The 2010 Sun dollar was issued with the same 5K mintage and $139.95 issue price. Both are reported to have sold less than 5k. The Poppy is 4907 and the Sun is just 3722.
They were also sterling silver and therefore were subject to sales tax.
added:
Sorry just noticed that commems noted the Sun (as well as the 2008 HR Poppy). Just to finish the thought, the 2008 dollar at least sold out with 4994 official sales.

@Electrum: Unfortunately, I'm not aware of any specifics about what might be coming in November beyond the RCM's cryptic posting about a "Remembrance" coin scheduled for November. @Silveroid: I believe the key difference here is that each of the three coins I mentioned had a mintage of just 5,000 coins. The RCM needed to recoup its design and production costs over a relatively low number of coins whereas the mintage for the Superman Shield coin was 10,000 - a much greater number of coins over which to amortize costs. The secondary market has supported the three silver dollars due to the relative popularity of the silver dollar series. A mintage of just 5,000 pieces in this series does create a minor degree of scarcity and corresponding market pressure.

Thanks guys, CC-Ottawa and Commems....
it seems to be the expenses related to the low mintage, specifically if it Silver Dollar that traditionally has tens of thousands units minted.
So basically, twice in a decade, years ending by 5 and 0, we can expect something nice commemorative, related to the Victory or Remembrance. And these coins really have to be among the best.

I was lucky than to get a pr69 NGC graded enamel poppy for $129, it was a colonial acre auction in summer. It and the war of 1812 are among my favorite coins. I'm slowly working on my silver dollar and silver proof set collection. Another really nice coin is the gilded 2006 silver dollar ( Victoria Cross). It took over a yr to get this proof set for $80. Hopefully someone will post pics, I can't get it to work for me. Great thread, I have several of the coins. I enjoy the history of them! The copper medallion is absolutely gorgeous, one day may add the silver proof. At CC your photos are outstanding,I drool over the detail you capture. How about starting a thread sharing some tips on how you're able to capture the images so well!!

According to Haxby, the release price of the 2010 Poppy one dollar coin was $139.95 with a current book value of $285.00. A rather expensive coin.

I like the 2005 V-E Day nickel because it ties back to the 1943-45 "V" Victory nickels.

Another of my favourites from the War Monuments series, though I find it hard to get a good pic of it.
