This thread reminds me that many years ago I started a Presidential Art Medals set. Very nice medals with relief that really stood out.
I collected about half the medals, but would like to finish the set someday. Hopefully I can find somebody who would like to get rid of the ones they have been hanging onto for years. I sometimes see one or two at coin stores or flea markets.

I like the part where he states that the coins are "taped" into the cardboard. Somebodies going to have fun cleaning the tape residue off all those tokens. Too bad the tape will probably ruin the cardboard holder if you try to remove it.

If you use lighter fluid it will disolve the tape on the cardboard so it can be lifted safely. I have used it on rare books and it loosens the tape and evaproates very quickly.

The bronze tokens are actually quite common by exonumismatic standards. There are thousand of these sets out there and you can even find them in their original packaging. It's not true that a complete set of aluminum was redeemed for these. Most of these were given out to those who found an "instant winner". You could also win one by finding a several specific presidents.
It's the aluminum tokens which can be scarce or rare. All the big winners haven't been seen since they were redeemed in 1968 and are presumed destroyed. Even the minor winners are extremely difficult to find and most are presumed lost or destroyed. The common pieces can be found but these are not nearly so numerous as tenty years ago. Most can be found in nice pleasing condition but will require a little more effort sometimes. There were multiple strikings of at least some of the common pieces so there are varieties. It's a fun set to put together but it isn't likely to be completeable

I received one of these sets from Shell in the 64-66 time frame and have it stored away. I never paid much attention to them and just made them an early addition to my coin collection.

Shell used to give footballers's medals here in 1997. There were three sets, each of the three biggest football (US:soccer:) clubs here. This is the one for Galatasaray: I wonder if Shell does this medal thing everywhere.

Cool set. hmmmmm, the good old days! When the gas station gave you SOMETHING for doing business with them, the banks gave you a toaster or a waffle iron when you opened an account and they actually talked to you. Green stamps from the grocery stores? I feel so old! Margaret
