Well, I guess I've been busy here of late. Besides the Prutah that I purchased (see Unknown Greek), I have bought three additional coins. The first is a Denarius of Faustina I RIC 362; DIVA FAV-STINA, draped bust right / AVG-VSTA, Ceres, veiled, standing left, holding torch & raising robe The second is a Denarius of Nerva, RIC 3: IMP NERVA CAES AVG P M TR P COS II P P, laureate head right / CONCODIA EXCERCITVVM, clasped hands holding legionary eagle resting on prow And the third is a Antoninianus of Numerian, RIC 386: IMP C M AVR NVMERIANVS AVG, radiate draped bust right / MARS VICTOR, Mars advancing right with spear & trophy, C to right

What a nice set of coins. I'm curious though. What is the reverse design supposed to represent, with the two clasping hands on the Nerva coin?
As far as getting carried away. I slowed way down for awhile. I have enough coins now that I can set back and look at everything I have and enjoy them. Although, sometimes you just want more new coins. lol

Concordia is, of course concord, agreement and harmony, and like this coin is sometimes represented by just a pair of clasped hands. I'm unsure of the symbolism of standard/eagle on the prow. It was the reverse that caught my attention.

fantastic coins! i really like the fuastina. remember that old caligula movie poster with the coin weeping blood? the markings around her eyes remind me of that. found a picture online... i got a small uncleaned lot this weeked, and I have put myself on coin-hold until May 14th. wish me luck!

Your Numerian is not RIC 386 but RIC 353c. The difference is the title 386 for the Augustus and 353 for the Caesar.

You are correct Eddop. Thanks for double-checking me. chrsmat71: I thought the same thing about the eyes. She looks like she is weeping and that poster of Caligula is exactly what came to mind. Nice coins JW! I know there was a deal on each and every one of them! Yes, coin collecting can get expensive. (and addicting as well!).

Quote: Interesting reverse on the Nerva I agree, but I would like to know the significance of the "legionary eagle resting on prow". If the clasped hands represent agreement and harmony, could the symbolism mean something like peace at sea?
