This auction has been bugging me.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...t_1330wt_700.

No, I am not the winner. Is there anything that I am missing on why these went to high?

Maybe a rare variety? Those TX unclaimed property auctions are almost always overpriced- perhaps because they are advertising widely in local papers or something.

Unclaimed/police/goodwill auctions tend to go sky high. Looks like that might be decayed leather, which will come off in a jiffy.

Yeah, that is a bit odd. They look (at least from the crummy pictures) genuine. But the two of them aren't worth anything more than $80 on a *good* day.

$152 with that kind of corrosion (it's greenish, not leathery; could even be PVC damage) seems downright excessive.

Perhaps the winner is in the spirit of bidding for the institution rather than the item?

The only thing you are missing is the void in your wallet.

Assuming this really is an unclaimed property auction I have found that these sales are often attended by people who have no idea what coins are worth. So these are not being bid on by collectors, they are being bid on by people who think they must be really valuable because they are OLD. I've seen it happen many times with unclaimed property auctions.
