Thanks SPP. Any idea what it looks like? I assume it has something to do with the small island in front of the canoe; maybe weak lines defining the island? I have a couple of different varieties of full water lines in front of the canoe -- the regular full type, and another where polishing has removed a lot of the waterline detail so the lines are weak (but still there and touching the canoe). I also have the more common over-polished short lines variety. Possibly the "weak waterlines variety" is the flat island type?
On a side note there are also 3 varieties in the left waterlines -- short waterlines, long waterlines, and full waterlines. These varieties often, but not always, correspond with the same type as the right waterlines, so it's possible to get some unusual combinations of varieties. The jewels on the obverse, too, have 3 small varieties; attached, detached (near), and detached (far). Admittedly virtually all of these varieties are caused by die polishing, but they're fun to look for.
And now you say the 1978 has possible island varieties too... hmm, time to start another hunt! (lol).
