Picked this one up recently, one of the better 1883's with cents I've seen around here that I could afford. Plus it has a really nice golden tone to it. What do you think this one would grade?

Also just noticed the darker area on the reverse....it's not verdigris....it almost looks like little chips or something

I would tend to grade it at AU, possibly cleaned? I am having a hard time from the pictures figuring out if that is wear or a weak strike.

Sill, very nice coin!

(honestly I am leaning towards weak strike at which point I would revise my guess upwards)

I am not sure what is going on with the reverse but it should grade AU otherwise. I think the loss of details is from weak strike.
Rest in Peace

Maybe it was lacquered or coated with something? I was thinking around XF-45. Nice coin!

You have it in hand - what does it look like to you?

(I am referencing the stuff on the reverse)

Having a hard time really figuring that out.....looks almost like something in the die....almost looks as if it was struck that way.....however if thats the case it's pretty severe

Maybe different lighting would help figure out what it is - I have never soaked a coin so the advise I usually give is not to

yeah I'm going to work on that.....I've been trying to take pictures of coins that don't need the two light sources....at first I thought I could get away with it on this one.....I'm thinking I was wrong. Will post this one again once I get a better light set up

AU50 for me!

I agree with a bit of a weaker strike on the obverse (front hair & upper stars). The discoloration and small rim ding on the reverse (7 o'clock) also tends to lower the grade.
