Are corrosion protection pages sold by the same guys who sell coin albums recommended and effective? For all types of coins? Thanks!
Rest in Peace

Rather a vague question. There are many manufacturers of coin products. Some of the ones that make Folders are sort of fly by night type situations. their products are not for anyone that is interested in long term coin storage. Some of those companies just jumped on this latest coin collecting craze started by the State Quarters. Those companies really don't care about your coins in the future, just buy their products now. And even some of the larger coin item companies acquire their products from places like China and no idea of what they are made from.
Contrary to the above, there are numerous REAL coin collecting supply organizations such as Dansco, Whitman, Littleton, etc.
Without more details of what your mentioning, a true reply is not easy.

Sorry. I have Ben buying Littleton albums for my coins. I like them because they show both sides of my coins while protecting them on both sides. They also sell what they call Littleton Corrosion Protection Pages, separately, for their albums. I'm wondering if these are just a gimmick or if they are important to the long term protection of my coins. It appears no one here is familiar with them so I'm tending to believe they are not necessary. Does that help?

I like the Intercept Shield coin albums. They seem to be better made and are supposed to have corrosion protection.

A moisture barrier bag is one of the best ways to protect your valuables from rust and corrosion. Moisture barrier bags prevent water from harming your products prevent damage from electrostatic discharge and UV rays: http://www.protectivepackaging.net/...barrier-bags

meg, the Littleton album you are using is fine in and of itself. As I have said before in relation to the Intercept albums, unless you are living in a chemical plant or haz mat zone, your albums are not going to be exposed to the compounds that would require that type of page. The one exception being if you are a smoker and you smoke in your house. The smoke WILL penetrate your albums and tone the coins. Sometimes nicely, sometimes not. So no, you dont really need those pages.

Now, if you live in a real humid area, you may want to store your albums in zip loc bags with a few dessicant bags. I have Dansco albuns on a book shelf above my desk. Its somewhat humid in VA, but nothing I need to worry over.

Talk about Humidity. I'm in the upper Illinois area and if the humidity drops below 1,000 percent, we celebrate. Slight exageration but it really is horrible here. I too use Zip Lock Plastic bags for all my Albums.

We use dehumidifiers in our houses in this part od the world. Also air conditioners in the summer so we don't have to worry about zip lock bags and dessicants. And then beleive it or not, we just leave our coins in cardboard 2x2s so we can access them whenever.

I too use dehudifiers and A/C most of the time. Due to a Chemotherapy reduced immune system, my entire house is sort of well sealed. However, remember that every time you open a door, small spaces around windows, usage of a clothing dryer, new air seaps in all the time. If you do use a clothing dryer, it normally pushes out a large rooms air every 15 minutes of drying time. Something most people never realize. That air is replaced from somewhere and it is full of humidity. For me to just use a Zip Lock Plastic bag is sort of a rather be safe than sorry attitude.
