I don't know much about Spanish coinage, but I can certainly appreciate counterfeits. That said, those are quite nice. :-)

Those are easy-to-detect copies though, there are many fakes on sale on ebay curently, which can pass for genuine if you don't know what to check. (first tip : don't buy from China)

I like the "1879" troy ounce, this one was new to me.
Even modern Mexican coins are counterfeited, obviously there were still some gains to be made passing along a fake one ounce of silver for a good one, even some years ago when bullion prices were much lower.
On the other hand, I wonder if the guy who produced it actually thought he could fool somebody with the "antique" date, or if he just didn't care.

Just curious Dos Mundos. Are any of these magnetic?

That's scary. I would not have expected the .925 Onza to have been counterfeited, though I guess with that date it's more of a fantasy coin than a 'counterfeit'!

Quote: On the other hand, I wonder if the guy who produced it actually thought he could fool somebody with the "antique" date, or if he just didn't care. When it comes to dates, they probably just didn't know what they were doing... which happens more often than not. This is why with American coinage there are fake 1900 American Silver Eagles alongside fake 1963 Seated Liberty dollars and 1797 Trade dollars ( http://fakes.numismetrica.com/tag/fantasy-date/ ). Chinese counterfeiters who aren't familiar with the currency simply don't seem to know or care how ridiculously off their dates can be. :-)
