1972 Quarter Mint Mark

I have a 1972 quarter with a P mint mark. The blue book shows a 1972 P, D and S mint mark. However I also have a 1972 quarter without a mint mark. Was this quarter made both ways?

The "P" mintmark is probably really a Denver with the bottom right of the letter damaged. Take a look with a magnifier and it will probably appear this way.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.
