I'm pretty new at this. I've seen a few slightly off-center strikes, but this one seems different. It has two distinct raised rims at the upper-right as though it was struck twice. Once properly centered and a second time off-center. Any thoughts? Sorry the photo quality is sub-par. Thanks for the help!

This is a MAD Lincoln. For it to be worth anything, collectors like it off of the coin, the image, lettering and all that, except the date, we need that on the coin!

to the CCF nealb ... pleased to have you here with us. Your photo is good enough for us to offer some opinions in support of your question ... The obverse of your 1982 Lincoln Memorial cent ( LMC) exhibits what is known as a Mis-Aligned Die (MAD) strike ... It is not an off-center strike ... note that the reverse of your coin is normally centered ... but as well exhibits a common fault of grease filled legends ... Note the lack of detail in the reverse legends above the memorial ... Sooo .. this is a 1982 Philly mint MAD with grease filled reverse ... fun find ... but not worth a premium to most collectors. Thanks for sharing ... David

chzman, thank you. It appears to me to be struck twice with the second strike being the MAD. There are two very distinctly raised rims at the upper right. Do you get that impression? If so, does that change the collectability?

Hmm , I'm sorry I'm no help here , but curious if you put it on a scale ? the 1982 pennies have a few diffent style and material make-ups curious what this one would be . Best of luck. Oh and here is your photos singled out and enlarged a bit hope they help..

I'll add another find since this is a bit more active than the CRH forum. I just found this in the same roll. (I'm only on my 3rd box of pennies ever.) I believe it to be a 1998 Wide AM. Thanks everyone for the quick replies.

Hmm , That to me looks like a Wide AM .. But since I personally have not picked any up yet hopefully a seasoned collector could chime in for you . Nice find if it turns out to be a true WAM .!! Best of Luck / Phil \m/

That is a real nice 1998 WAM but the members here like different coins on separate posts.

No ... we are not going to put up with re-posting photos in multiple threads for multiple opinions. No reason to re-post your 1998 LMC in this thread. It gets everyone confused ... I answered the question on the 1998 WAM in it's own thread ... and this 1982 LMC is a MAD despite what the OP wants to think. Note to staff to follow ... note to new valued poster is keep the topics separate and let folks reply as they see fit. David

It is a MAD strike, not double struck, but it may also be affected by a bit of die attrition. Either way, it does not add any value.

Quote:No reason to re-post your 1998 LMC in this thread I agree. The original 1998 WAM thread was moved from the CRH forum to the E/V forum so we can focus on attribution.

It appears to be of Zinc composition... (just looking at the bumps) I personally wouldn't keep it.
