Hi, would I be mistaken in thinking that post-Anzac day is a good time to hit the banks for prime noodling coins? To my mind, there would have to be at least a few old diggers in most towns that emptied their coin tins to play two-up etc - and then those same ancient coins would be hitting the banks around now. But I may be wrong ...

That's a fair enough assumption. Quite plausible theory.

This is a good subject. The GFC was nice (I use this term loosely!) as people were poor and taking coins to bank, but on a more seasonal basis, when are people more likely to empty the change jars... I am thinking around Christmas? After the school summer holidays... When are the thieves going to be out in force and putting them back into the pubs, to be put into banks, to be put into our 2x2s...

Personally, I do my banking on Friday at work. All the cash takings are kept in a safe throughout the week & banked on Friday. I know that a lot of other self employed small businesses out there would probably use a similar strategy for their banking. I'd be putting Friday afternoon (last two hours of banking trade) as the number 1. But Monday afternoon (last two hours of banking trade) as number 2 for all the businesses that trade over the weekend, because generally they can't bank on Saturday & all banks are closed on Sunday.
Maybe we should have a poll...Friday or Monday?

The best time to noodling is after the security trucks have bought in a new load of coins LOL

To avoid noodling through pre noodled bags. I know the bank I bank at has Chubb collects on Wednesdays ( different for other banks) so it would probably be worthwhile finding out the day of coin collection at your bank and collect bags not too long after the collect so as to minimise the chance that you picking up a pre noodled bag

When I didn't have a job and was taking noodling very seriously I use to know when the armaguard deliveries were and would wait outside the bank at that time. Once the truck had left I went. I like the idea of coins fresh from armaguard, much better chance of getting fresh coin.

I found my wife while noodling on a mullock heap of mine waste on the Lightning Ridge opal fields. Didn't find any coins though. Did find a couple of small opal chips.
At least the banks weren't involved until a mortgage was needed to solve our problems!

Dumping the piggy bank for fuel and gifts, unfortunately stealing for food, booze and cancer stix.

Well, further to the forum suggestion of sussing out Chubb delivery days for my local bank - I tried to strike up that topic when doing the work banking today (for just the second time in my new job). Have to say I fully expected sirens and flashing red lights to go off and have a bunch of SWAT personnel descend upon me and drag me away as a suspected bank robber. My tip for fellow forum members is to carefully think about how you word this conversation BEFORE you open your mouth ...

Wearing a balaklava is probably not a good idea either.
