Check it out it has now been slabbed by NGC as PF65 (under graded in my eyes) if you look closely it has a RPL, you see lots of coins with a RPD but a letter !

Nice axial lighting pics, and a lovely medal with great toning.
However, based on these photos, the medal appears to have far too much rub to make PR-66, imho.

Nice coin !! Just to add, I was in Gareloch this past weekend. It used to be a dumping ground of old WW2 battleships !

cheers a.. as for the market price ? who knows in all my years of collecting it is the only one I have ever seen and Gareloch is a small place so dont think vast numbers would have been produced at the time.. and boy would it take some arm twisting to get it off my hands here is a picture of it when I found it

Oooooh! You've got the maker's information there! That doubles its worth immediately! J. Lindsay Laidlaw, Medallist, Helensburgh! A quick google search revealed this: http://www.dnw.co.uk/coins/auctiona...temid=125848and this: http://www.helensburgh-heritage.co....g&Itemid=457The article about poems... which mentions Laidlaw as a printer. Not surprising that printing and medallic work would go together! Whilst based on the results of only one auction for a coin described as EF when yours is ckearly better it appears as if owning one is not out of the question... Now to find one for sale
