Hi in my opinion it's a fake. The emperor's bust isn't in the correct style, too poor, even the legenda all around,it seems a fusion.I wouldn't buy it. wait for other opinions. regards.

I cant find a match in the fakes databases I use - its ref no is RPC I 185 as its a Provincial from Spain. It is Caligula and the other bust is either Caesonia or Salus, its unknown for sure. Your coin is missing a 'C' at 2 O'Clock on the reverse, as is the below coin: http://www.forumancientcoins.com/bo...opic=40518.0The missing 'C' is due to a damaged die - I cant say for sure if this is fake or not but what we have is two examples from the same damaged die. Die matches are not uncommon from these older coins but it does nothing to put my mind at rest. Style-wise I also find it difficult to comment - its 'OK', fabric-wise I'm a little less happy and although not a definite negative your coin does look very 'soapy'. It should also be noted, perhaps most worryingly that both coins were made in Spain but both have / are being sold from Bulgaria. Is it expensive? I would have to think long and hard about buying it if it was. Hopefully others can comment.

On both the obverse(under TR.P) and on the other side, there is an overflow of metal, the sign of the point of entry of the molten metal, in the mold. This point is clearly visible even in the first of two coins posted by bobby, only that there was well filed. I reconfirm my idea of a fake obatined by fusion.Even the two coins posted by bobby sounds me as fakes.

My first thought is "fake". Style-wise it jumps out as "something wrong". As Giano pointed out, even the legends are flat and appear wrong. Unless one can buy this coin for a song, you would stay away IMHO.

Without knowing anything about this coin, I just feel that a struck coin with this much remaining relief would have sharper features at least somewhere, but everywhere the legends and portraits have a uniform softness--why? The coins Bobby posted appear to be bronze, while this coin looks silver, or some whitish metal?

I'm probably going to be proved wrong, but I believe it may be real. I can't say with any certainty but the overall appearance looks right other than it seems to be polished.

Details look mushy. I'd say fake, but I'm not 100% certain.

Judging only from style comparisons with photos of other coins, I can not accept this as real. I do not have personal, hands on experience with this type coin.

Much like you echizento, even in view of the evidence (some of which I found!) was still not sure and happy to say either way with this coin. I would however not be kean to buy an coin - I'd never be able to enjoy it fully so this one needs to be avoided.

When in doubt, pass on it.
